The pigment
Emblematic of the entire Mediterranean coast, Gaude – Reseda Luteola – was used in the Middle Ages by illuminators, known by its Italian name, Arzica. From the 1st to the 10th century AD, from Egypt to Palestine, it was the primary source of yellow-orange dye for silks and the wool of the grand kilims with floral patterns from eastern Anatolia. This pigment is renowned for its incredible biological properties.
